Not in black and white but I think they’re definitely eerie so I reckon they fit this weeks photo challenge!
These were taken at a local cemetery a few years ago… apparently the webs were created by a little caterpillar called ermine yponomeuta moths, which are common in Britain. It was a pretty amazing sight!

It was a very strange experience, like half the cemetery had been snowed on and the rest untouched! Thanks for stopping by and commenting 🙂

Hey TAC, I love these pics! I’m a big fan of graveyards – the peace, the nostalgia and the reminder that life is there to be lived… the caterpillars have done a great decoration job!

Hey there MM! I find them quite peaceful too… during the day anyway, not a fan after dark! 😉 The caterpillars webbing job definitely made it more atmospheric! 🙂

Oh wow! What amazing webs! Where is this cemetery? I have never seen so many of these webs in one place before, Superb, eerie set.

Thanks! The cemetery is in Southend-On-Sea, Essex. Here’s a link to a newspaper article all about them…

They are aren’t they? I’ve seen a picture of a car completely covered in them and their webs… imagine going out in the morning to work and being confronted with your car like that… it would be a great ‘sorry I’m late but…’ excuse! 😀

Beautiful pictures! I agree: they don’t need to be in B&W to be eerie 🙂

Thank you kindly! In fact they’re better for having colour as it enhances how starkly white the caterpillars had turned the trees! 🙂

Wow, that’s crazy, and creepy (eerie too of course)! I’m not a see a bug and squeal sort of girl but the thought of the caterpillars slowly covering everything in their webs does seriously give me the willies!

I know what you mean… most bugs don’t bother me too much but if that had been spiders webs you wouldn’t have found me anywhere near the place… photo opportunity or not!!! 😉
