Weekly Photo Challenge: Motion!

The challenge for this week is all about motion This series of photos were taken during a holiday in France a few years ago.  They feature my youngest son in various stages of running and jumping into the pool.  My daughter can also be spied (already in the pool) in various stages of gleeful disbelief…the water was sooo cold and she couldn’t believe he was going to launch himself, full pelt into it’s icey depths instead of gingerly easing himself in like she (and I) would!  Eldest son on the lounger in the background…clearly too laid back to care either way!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Afloat!

For the challenge of Afloat I thought I’d post a few photos of this Seagull who seemed to be having fun floating over the waves at Durdle Door in Dorset, England, on a very windy afternoon a few weeks ago!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Serenity

This photo was taken at St Jame’s Park in London.  The mother Swan and her sygnet’s looked very serene gliding and preening through the calm, sunlit water…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette #2!

The following photo’s are of my youngest son… taken while he jumped on a trampoline and did different poses in the air!  He and I had great fun doing these!

This is my second entry to this week’s challenge for Silhouette… to see the first one click here!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Silhouette

This week’s photo challenge is silhouette.  The photo’s below were all taken locally to me recently…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Monument

This weeks challenge from The Daily Post is Monument…

“The Eiffel Tower? Stonehenge? Your town’s sole traffic light? For this week’s photo challenge, blow us away with your take on the monumental.”

Weekly Photo Challenge: Threshold

For this week’s challenge I decided I would post a couple of pictures of my eldest son on his 18th birthday, December 2013. Here he is opening some of his gifts, still a boy in so many ways… but on the threshold of manhood!

My son's 18th birthday and the threshold from boy to man!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Street Life

This weeks photo challenge is all about ‘street life’… the only recent street life photos I’ve taken were all in or around Brick Lane and I think I’ve posted enough of those for now!  So I decided to use some from a holiday in France back in 2011!

Hope you enjoy them…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Perspective

This week’s photo challenge from The Daily Post asks us to look at perspective…

“Photos aren’t objective – they show what we want them to show”

Weekly Photo Challenge: Selfie

I’m not a fan of the ‘selfie’ but I do like to enter into the spirit of things so have decided to post some ‘selfie’ reflections, neither intended… the first was taken at the Village Green Festival, where my eldest son performed live, singing and playing guitar, in a festival setting for the first time. The photo is a reflection of me through his sunglasses and in the second… I was aiming to take a photo of my Mutley dog in the boot of my car after a long romp over the rolling Dartmoor hills… she (and we) had a wonderful time!

I guess the camera is a part of my heart and  soul so any ‘selfie’ was always going to have the camera in front of my face!

A reflection of me through my son's sunglasses!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Object #2(?)

I realised, when going to bed last night that I hadn’t included my Wish Angel in my first entry for the photo challenge! Mon Dieu… I hear you say!

My Wish Angel was a Christmas present from my Mum… she sits on my bedside table (my wish angel, not my mum!) and is the first thing I see in the morning (other than the alarm clock!) and the last thing I see at night (other than setting the alarm clock!) she makes me stop for a moment and remember to embrace the ebb and flow of everyday life but also makes me realise that there is more to life than setting alarm clocks are many possibilities to come, many directions my life can take… she makes me excited and calm about the future, she makes me smile!

My Wish for you, is that you embrace every ebb and flow…

That you feel the full breath of possibility…

That you listen to what is calling you…

...embrace every ebb and flow...

…embrace every ebb and flow…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Object

I’ve been otherwise occupied for a wee bit, with goodness knows exactly what but it’s certainly kept me busy!

I hope a merry Christmas was had in every corner of the blogosphere and I wish one and all a very happy, healthy and peaceful new year!

This weeks photo challenge is all about the ‘object‘…

Weekly Photo Challenge: One

This shot was taken in Mevagissey, Cornwall.  I was meandering along the harbour and crouched down to take a photo of the rowing boat with all the other boats and cottages providing the wonderfully colourful background and reflections in the water when the Seagull landed and posed for me!  So this is my One for this weeks challenge

Fishing boats and Seagulls... typically Mevagissey!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Let There Be Light!

For this week’s photo challenge I’m posting some photos taken recently in London’s Piccadilly Circus with a silhouette of the famous Eros statue in one of them.  A couple were taken at the Warner Bros Studio Tour, The Making of Harry Potter, which I totally recommend to any Harry Potter fans out there… it was awesome!  Some taken locally and of course you’ve gotta have candles!

So without much further ado… Let There Be Light!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Layers

For this weeks challenge, Layers I decided to take some photos of things around my home… it’s amazing how many different layers can be found in ordinary everyday stuff!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Eerie

Not in black and white but I think they’re definitely eerie so I reckon they fit this weeks photo challenge

These were taken at a local cemetery a few years ago… apparently the webs were created by a little caterpillar called ermine yponomeuta moths, which are common in Britain. It was a pretty amazing sight!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Horizon

I couldn’t decide on just one, so here are a few Horizon’s for this weeks challenge… some were taken during a trip to France a couple of year’s ago and some from an impromptu lazy afternoon locally!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Saturated

I thought I’d go with the saturated by water element of this weeks challenge and post a photo of my beautiful Mutley looking very bedraggled after spending an afternoon on a beach in Cornwall with us this summer…

Mutley loves water as long as it's not too deep and moving too fast!

In the boot of the car, worn out after her beach adventures!

Mutley loves going into water as long as it’s not too deep or moving too fast! This was the first time she’d actually been into the sea deep enough to get completely saturated… my son was throwing sticks in for her and she finds a stick very hard to resist!

Weekly Photo Challenge: From Lines to Patterns

For this weeks challenge set by The Daily Post here are a few lines and patterns taken in the garden, on the beach and by the river…

Weekly Photo Challenge: Inside…

I had fun with this weeks photo challenge it made me think outside the box! Couldn’t resist this, inside the lens…

Weekly Photo Challenge: An Unusual POV

This weeks photo challenge had me trawling through my photos trying to find one that fit the ‘unusual point of view’ theme…

Challenge yourself to rethink your ideas about what subjects are appropriate, and then challenge yourself again to find an unusual perspective on your subject.

I came up with this one taken at The Village Green Festival, it’s a reflection of the view my Son was seeing through his sunglasses!

He played his first live gig in a festival setting... I was very proud of him!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Sea

This weeks photo challenge got me thinking about what the sea really means to me, how does it make me feel… there are so many emotions the sea evokes. When I have been away from it for a while, I miss it, I feel it’s pull… it makes me feel calm, peaceful, able to breathe deeply… renewed, alive, invigorated and full of life’s possibilities.

The photo below was taken on a beach we had stumbled upon quite by accident (sometimes the best kind) whilst looking for a completely different one!  The perfect afternoon turned into a glorious evening with an amazing sunset which I couldn’t capture because my camera battery died!  Gutted and lesson learned!

I could sit for hours, listening to the waves breaking on the sand... staring out at the distant horizon... life is beautiful!

I could sit for hours, listening to the waves breaking on the sand… staring out at the distant horizon… life and the world is beautiful!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Focus

The photos below were taken on a beach in Cornwall a few weeks ago.  I was focusing on the texture at the time but I think these go well with this weeks photo challenge theme

Weekly Photo Challenge: The Golden Hour

This weeks photo challenge is the golden hour… that time of day when the sun is rising to herald new possibilities, when the air is fresh and the world is quiet… when you can breathe deeply, ready for whatever challenges or adventures come your way… or when the sun is setting, the air is warm but there’s a lovely welcome, gentle breeze and you close your eyes and exhale… reflecting on the day as it closes its sleepy eyes.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Nostalgic

I took these photographs a few weeks ago… whilst clearing out my loft, I came upon a bag full of the children’s old dressing up clothes… my teenage sons of 17 and 15 were delighted with this blast from their pasts and promptly dressed up in everything that they could still fit into!  So this is my take on nostalgic for this weeks photo challenge

Eldest son, on the left, is dressed in a fushion of Cowboy hat, meets Jack Sparrow pirate head band with hair attachments & pirate sword, meets Lego bear shield! Youngest son is dressed in a fushion of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles mask, meets Knights facial armour, meets Lego Eagle shield, meets Laser tag gun!

I had to add this one... when my youngest son looked down and saw his old handmade hat he wore for a school assembly his voice went all high pitched as he exclaimed with a sharp intake of breath... 'My broccoli hat!'

I could not stop laughing for ages… it was so much fun seeing them enjoying all of their old childhood stuff once more… such a lovely nostalgic moment!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Companionable #3!

Time’s running out… how could I not post a few photo’s of Mutley for the weekly photo challenge with a theme of ‘companionable’ it would feel so wrong of me not to!  Mutley is, after all, my constant companion… she is loyal, never judges, makes me smile and is always totally ecstatic every time I come home!

This is Mutley...

Weekly Photo Challenge: Companionable #2

I captured these yesterday whilst enjoying the sunshine for a wonderful change!  I thought they were perfect for this weeks photo challenge… just imagine all the adventures going through their minds!  Oh to be a child again!

Four companionable adventurers...!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Companionable

These two were fishing together, taking it in turns to go ‘bottoms up’ for food!  They looked very cute and companionable so thought it rather apt for this weeks photo challenge

They did this for quite a while… sometimes both at the same time which was wonderfully funny!  Wish I’d captured one of those!

Weekly Photo Challenge: The World Through Your Eyes…

Nature and animals are what inspire me most.  Being among nature and around animals always makes me feel calm, happy and peaceful… literally makes me feel alive, the only time I really breathe deeply.  I’ve always wondered what the world looks like through animals eyes so that’s why I’ve chosen these for this weeks photo challenge

I couldn't not include Mutley's beautiful eyes!

I couldn’t not include Mutley’s beautiful eyes… she looks dopey because she’s just been rudely awoken by my camera! Sorry Mutley! 🙂

Weekly Photo Challenge: Curves

Swans are so elegant and beautiful… I chose this picture for this weeks photo challenge because of the graceful curves of the Swans head, neck and body… the curve of the lake and also because of the curved wingspan and tail feathers of the pigeon flying over it!

This Swan was enjoying posing for the camera! If you look in the background you can see Mrs Swan approaching with her Sygnets!

I think this is ‘Mr’ Swan, he seemed to be enjoying posing for the camera! If you look in the background you can see ‘Mrs’ Swan approaching with the Cygnets!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Fleeting… #2!

I have been trying (for some time now) to capture some squirrels on camera… unfortunately for me, Mutley normally spots them either at the same time or before me and sends them scurrying up the nearest tree!

Squirrel watching Mutley...

Squirrel watching Mutley…

This one stopped to watch Mutley just long enough for me to click but not as sharp as I’d like it!  Maybe next time the moment won’t be so fleeting…

... Mutley watching squirrel... hoping it comes down the tree she's just chased it up!

… Mutley watching squirrel… hoping it comes down the tree she’s just chased it up!

Look at that face intent on the squirrel… give it up Mutley… it’s never gonna happen!

Weekly Photo Challenge: Fleeting…

I love plants but I’m useless at keeping them alive!  My daughter bought me an amazing Orchid which I have affectionately (and in the interest of positivity) called ‘Possibility’ 🙂  I thought I would take some photographs of Possibilities amazing blooms because they are ‘fleeting’ and if my luck hasn’t changed, I may never see them again!

So beautiful… at least if Possibility never blooms again (and I so hope she does) I will have captured them forever here.

Quotes that speak to my soul…

"Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving.
What you have caught on film is captured forever...
it remembers little things,
long after you have forgotten everything." - Aaron Siskind

"You become things, you become an atmosphere, and if you become it, which means you incorporate it within you, you can also give it back. You can put this feeling into a picture. A painter can do it. And a musician can do it and I think a photographer can do that too and that I would call the dreaming with open eyes." - Ernst Haas

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by Dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
- Steve Jobs

“To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy.”
- Henri Cartier-Bresson

“For me, the camera is a sketch book, an instrument of intuition and spontaneity.”
― Henri Cartier-Bresson

“Above all, life for a photographer cannot be a matter of indifference”
― Robert Frank
