Slow down… and breathe…

Most of my days are spent rushing from one thing to another, always so much to do and not enough time to do it!  Except when I’m out walking Mutley…

There’s a certain point I get to in the local wood where the sun streams through the trees and the only sounds are those of the birds going about their business (and Mutley panting as she charges about chasing squirrels) that I tilt my head to the sky, slow down… and breathe…

Lovely. I like it that your dog is called Mutley but does that make you Dick Dastardly? ;). For me photography is as much about taking time out to breathe as it is about taking images.

Ha ha no actually I nicknamed her ‘Mutley’ just because she sometimes acts like a mad mutt despite her pedigree breeding! 🙂 Yes I agree about the time out to breathe, I always feel so happy and peaceful when I’m out with my camera, especially when surrounded by nature.

Quotes that speak to my soul…

"Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving.
What you have caught on film is captured forever...
it remembers little things,
long after you have forgotten everything." - Aaron Siskind

"You become things, you become an atmosphere, and if you become it, which means you incorporate it within you, you can also give it back. You can put this feeling into a picture. A painter can do it. And a musician can do it and I think a photographer can do that too and that I would call the dreaming with open eyes." - Ernst Haas

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by Dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most importantly, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
- Steve Jobs

“To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy.”
- Henri Cartier-Bresson

“For me, the camera is a sketch book, an instrument of intuition and spontaneity.”
― Henri Cartier-Bresson

“Above all, life for a photographer cannot be a matter of indifference”
― Robert Frank
